Atticus Finch Strengths and Faults Atticus Finch is an excellent father to two amiable kids known as Jem and Scout He is a lawyer in a small town called Maycomb Alabama Atticus has a lot of strengths but he also has some faults One fault was being too belittled by the realism of Bob Ewell s threats This essay will explain Atticus s strengths and weaknesses in To Kill a Mockingbird I believe that Atticus s best strength is being an excellent father to his two kids Jem and Scout Atticus helps his kid with important life lessons He told his kids the truth instead of avoiding their questions or lying to them like what most parent would do if something bad happens One example of this is when Tom Robinson had died in prison He had said Depends on how you look at it What was one Negro more or less among two hundred of em He wasn t Tom to them he was an escaping prisoner Lee 235 This is a good example of being a great father because he explains Tom Robinson s death so his children can process it in an easier way Atticus helps his kids handle the death of a well known man He also had encouraged Scout to be a more mature and kinder person by teaching her how to communicate with others in a better way Atticus doesn t let Scout say racist words around African American people He is trying to make Scout different from others who discriminate against people with different color skin Atticus also teaches 

Scout how to act with people that have a different background than her He explains why she should act in this manner when stating If you can learn a simple trick Scout you ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view Lee 30 This is important because Atticus is teaching her a valuable lesson about others The only way to truly understand a person and the views they have is to live their live and experience what they ve been through This quote shows that she can t judge people based on how they act From these reasons you can see that Atticus is an outstanding father to his kids Atticus is not only a fantastic father but in addition he is also a smart and amiable lawyer He had made an outstanding speech about Tom Robinson's innocence at the altercation Atticus should have won the trial because he had proved that Tom was innocent However the jury was biased against African American people making them unable to see the goodness Tom Robinson This is why the jury had declared him guilty and he was sent to prison on death road Atticus had proved that Tom was innocent by saying We don t know but there is circumstantial evidence to indicate that Mayella Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left Tom Robinson now sits before you having taken the oath with the only good hand he possesses his right hand Lee 208 This quote shows that the jury should of acquitted Tom because Atticus gave enough evidence to prove his innocent However the jury still believed
