284In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth God did not only make the Heavens and the Earth but He created man and woman He made them to worship Him in many ways from singing to praying from sacrificing to festivals To go with sacrifices God made tithing Tithing means to give literally a tenth of everything you have to God The first sacrifice ever was made by God himself for us when Adam and Eve sinned against Him It states in Genesis And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skin and clothed them God killed innocent animals to clothe his most prized creation humans The next sacrifice that is talked about in the Bible comes from Adam and Eve's sons Cain and Abel had different jobs 2 And again she bore his brother Abel Now Abel was a keeper of sheep and Cain a worker of the ground 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground 4 and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions
And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering 5 but for Cain and his offering he had no regard So Cain was very angry and his face fell Genesis 4 2 5 There are two interesting things that are sometimes not expected of this story Cain is placed first as the one who made an offering to God and Abel followed The other thing that is interesting to know is that God did not tell them to sacrifice or offer anything to Him they just did it because just as it was in their nature to sin it was also in their nature to worship their Maker However it is also stated in Matthew 21 For where your treasure is there your heart will be also Matthew 6 21 If Cain s heart had been in giving to the Lord maybe God would have accepted his offering This is why tithing is biblical and should be made from the heart The first act of tithing in the Bible is done by Abraham 19 And he blessed him and said Blessed be Abram by God Most High Possessor of heaven and earth 20 and blessed be God Most High who has delivered your enemies into your hand
One shall not differentiate between good or bad neither shall he make a substitute for it and if he does substitute for it then both it and the substitute shall be holy it shall not be redeemed 34
These are the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses for the people of Israel on Mount Sinai Leviticus 27 30 34 In those times one could pay with a tenth of all their goods or they could pay a twelfth with money Even though the tithe was for the Levites that is the priest of Israel even they were commanded to tithe 26 Moreover you shall speak and say to the Levites When you take from the people of Israel the tithe that I have given you from them for your inheritance then you shall present a contribution from it to the Lord a tithe of the tithe Numbers 18 26 God also put warnings and blessings with tithing God states what he will give when you tithe 9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will be bursting with wine Proverbs 3 9 10 Notice
