As I watched the videos on these three studies my mind filled with thoughts of worry and concern Each of these studies were a bit unethical in my eyes It is like the experimenters had no sympathy or morally concern for the participants and the damage that the experiments did to them They were so determined to get the end results they predicted that they would go to extensive lengths to achieve just that The Stanford Prison Study study was conducted to discover the way people who are incarcerated behave in such situations The basement of a psychology building on the campus of Stanford University was transformed into an imitation prison environment Zimbardo posted an ad in the local newspaper to recruit volunteers for his study to reveal the psychological effects of prison life Over 70 participants volunteered after seeing the ad that was placed The participants were giving examinations to rule out any abnormality s For their participation in this study the volunteers were paid 15 00 a day The determination of which participants would be guards or prisoners was randomly assigned Any prisoner who behaved in a such manner that the guards saw as disobedient would be placed in solitary confinement better known as the hole The hole was a very dark and claustrophobic area They even went as far as really arresting the participants from their jobs and other locations and then taking them to the mock prison to give them the actual feel
