Shattering Indiscreet Demotion and Deviance You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of views you climb into his skin and walk around in it Lee 30 In the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee the main character Scout grew up in Maycomb Alabama during the 1930 s The story is told by Scout an adult and telling her childhood stories The story is about a single father teaching his children a six years old girl Scout and ten years old Jem to be empathizing and respect everyone In To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee creates a novel to show the world needs more empathy through the characters point of views and dialogue First Haper Lee use Character to inform us that the citizen needs more sympathetic for each other One day while Scout are in school her classmate Cecil Jacobs taunt her because her father is defending Tom Robinson When Scout got home from school she asked Atticus why he would defend a n Atticus said If I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town I couldn t represent this country in the legislature I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again 49 This show that 



Atticus is a compassionate and impartial Atticus know that Tom Robinson is innocence and he wanted to defend him because he thinks it's callous and immoral not to and if Atticus was not going to defend Tom Robinson then he would lose his integrity and what he belief the entire time After the trial Atticus and Jem starting discussing how wrong the Tom Robinson lose the trial and punish Atticus say There is nothing more sickening to me than a low grade white man who'll take advantage of a N s ignorance Lee 220 Atticus empathize for the black folks and try to be in their shoe to understand how they would feel by racism Atticus is sickening by it because white folks are crazy over race and unfairness on how black folks were treated because he was in their shoe Harper Lee use the character Atticus Finch to shows empathy throughout the book Atticus show empathy for the black folks and unwavering for his belief This show Harper Lee think the world need more compassion and empathy Secondly Harper Lee decided to inform us her message through point of views The story is told by scout as a youngster and adult perspective The story show Scout growing up and learn how to empathize Mrs Dubose is a racist woman and one day when Jem pass Mrs Dubose's house 




Mrs Dubose start to talk about horrible things of Atticus Mrs Dubose talk about how Atticus is trash and was worse than a n Jem got angry and destroy Mrs Dubose's garden When Atticus knew what had happen he punish Jem to read for Mrs Dubose and Scout follow Jem and saw Mrs Dubose lying in the bed look sickly I wondered if Jem s activities had put her there and for a moment I feel sorry for her Lee 106 Mrs Dubose is one of the significance characters in the story that change Scout starting to feel empathy Scout and Jem first prejudge Mrs Dubose before they try to understand and share her feeling After they visited Mrs Dubose their opinion of her change At first the children think that she nasty and malicious but later on when Scout saw Mrs Dubose lying on the bed she started to think about Mrs Dubose perspective of life Mrs Dubose have disease health issue and because of that Mrs Dubose live a depressive life After being in Mrs Dubose s shoe Scout understand why Mrs Dubose have temper and let go of her previous judgement At the end of the story Scout went to 



Boo Radley's house Scout was standing at Boo's porch and thinks about Boo Radley s perspective Scout was looking at the street and she realize Atticus was right One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them Just standing on the Radley porch was enough Lee279 When Scout was at Boo Radley's porch she realized the importance of empathy and compassion Memory from the previous event appear in her mind In Boo Radley s perspective Scout saw the neighborhood Boo Radley s live in and growing up with violent parent After Scout saw how cruel and unfair the society is she understand why Boo Radley don't want to come out from the house and feel for him In other word she recognized the significance to be in others people s shoe and finally understand Atticus lessons
