What is track one diplomacy and why does religious and cultural conflict in the 21st century pose particular problems for it Track one diplomacy is also known as interstate diplomacy A formal interaction and communication tool that is used between nation states by governmental officials diplomats high level political and military leaders for negotiations treaties trade policies and other international agreements With focus being on ceasefire peace talks and treaties The process ranges from very formal to informal and can be very adversarial and competitive Track one diplomacy relies on distributive and positional bargaining strategies and many times seen as an assumed as win or lose situation The goal is to maintain power over weaker nations with a balance of power within nations of equal status Track one diplomacy gave states legitimate and authoritative control over war and violence in the sphere of international relations since the Westphalian era In which states of great power were key to war or peace 



Track one diplomacy has been used to maintain international order for example by making alliances and holding multilateral conferences Globalization is causing track one diplomacy to be a less needed tool because more conflicts are taking place within the states then from the outside with another state or states There are also new animosities that seem to be developing in the way cultural and religious differences are being exacerbated by globalization and attributing to inward conflicts The reason track one diplomacy conflict with religious and culture conflict is because it is geared more toward state to state conflicts and keeping conflicts from crossing borders and creating war However many reasons for the state to state conflicts occurring deal with religion and culture and not the western ideas that keep church and state separate in its decision making 2 Please elaborate the concept of faith based diplomacy and how it differs from the standard realist traditions of diplomacy Faith based diplomacy is practiced mainly by those who are considered on state actors NGO workers religious leaders and private citizens and is considered track two diplomacy It is an umbrella to a family of initiatives that create solutions adapted from a religious foundation in which secular diplomacy cannot grasp

Taking into account the broad ideas that nation states are looking out for national interest of power and security It is also different in its view from faith based diplomacy because of its observations in seeing situations that arise only in the now and don t take into consideration the future outlook of a nation state and the people and communities within it 3 Describe some of the philosophical differences between Hasan al Banna and Sayyid Qutb Hanna al Banna and Sayyid Qutb have more similarities than differences in their philosophical views They are both seen as two of the most influential Arab theorists in the Muslim world While Hanna al Banna is considered an Islamist and Sayyid Qubt considered the radical Islamist The Hanna al Banna in some ways influenced Sayyid Qutb because of his orientation to Islam and at the time Hanna al Banna was participating in a number of social reforms with political agenda s in Cairo Following in his footsteps Qutb became the new ideological leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and continued to develop upon Hanna al Banna s ideas and theories Hanna al Banna himself promoted the resurgence of Islam and became the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood and the leader who formed the organization in its early stages

After al Banna s long period of absence as leader of the Muslim Brotherhood after his assassination they became extremely radicalized in their actions against Egypt and other countries There was a mass immigration that took place within the Muslims Brotherhood member organization to Europe Canada US Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states Therefore teachings then spread around the world at a rapid pace He implemented da wah and jihad While his world view seems to be determined and coherent He preached Pan Islamism and didn t oppose pan Arabism or Egyptian nationalism Sayyid Qubt after studying abroad in the US and also a long period being incarcerated experienced his own personal radicalization with his own perceptions Sayyid Qubt through his writing shows that he went from a moralist to a revolutionary He had a profound impact of the Arab Muslim youth and bringing them back to their roots of Islam He emphasized Islam as being the complete way of life He opposed Arab nationalism and Pan Arabism because he believed Islam is for all His interpretation of Hanna al Banna s theories showed to be at a multi interpretational level Believing all Muslim s primary responsibility should be to establish Allah s order on earth and devoted himself to bringing idea for a total change in the political system
