Yvonne Xi Mr Cutler Latin American History 2018 01 06 The United States should return Mexico s lost territory Unhesitatingly expanding its regions westbound the United States was motivated by the idea of Manifest Destiny that the extension of the United States all through the American continent was unavoidable and justified It was believed firmly by the people in United States that the United States would have endless possibilities and unlimited potentials becoming a developed country In the same time Mexico could not control over the vast lands it had acquired from Spain and also suffered from the profound interior political divisions The war burst between them during the period 1846 1848 Without any doubts the United States should return Mexico's lost territory because the United States was not justified in taking half of Mexico's territory in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo the Manifest Destiny and aggressive imperialism was pursued at the expense of others and the American actions was not justified by economic political and ideological impulses On 2nd February 1848 ending the U S Mexican War the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed

The United States acquired more than 500 000 square miles of important region making it as its continental power in the late 19th century Mexico lost almost half of its land and the United States gained a lot of lands from Mexico where is the present American Southwest from Texas to California However the United States was not justified in taking half of Mexico's territory in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas is the Mexican left statesman In his opinion the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo abuses fundamental global legal standards There were also many important articles that supported his idea such as those dealing with citizenship property and the security of 100 000 Mexicans who remained on what became American territory People should remember the true history of the Mexico U S War It led toward a question that to what extend of the historic prosperity of the United States of America stems from the development of territories originally inhabited by Mexicans and ripped away from Mexico through an invasion and a war of territorial conquest By reading History of the Conquest of Mexico by William Prescott numerous American soldiers knew about the nature of war

With lament and shame many famous people were aware of that For example John Quincy Adams wrote that it was the most outrageous war Henry Clay believed the people in that period were actuated by a spirit of rapacity and an inordinate desire for territorial aggrandizement Abraham Lincoln also thought it was not justified because warriors at that time were permitted to kill men women and children Manifest Destiny and aggressive imperialism was pursued at the expense of others despite the fact that Manifest Destiny appeared really well intentioned as the fruitful Great Awakenings Like any other wars the U S Mexican War was fundamentally about violence a violence that did not end once the war or the military phase of the war ended The war to some extent was about brutality allocation racism and expropriation The war was about labor acquiring or making wealth about capitalist development and what that means By claiming this concept in the war the warriors took land from Native Americans and Mexican violently by showing dominating power of Andrew Jackson to realize their American dreams The behavior of America that seizing lands from a weak neighbor country is not justified because it is morally wrong to seize a country that is much weaker People who were violated would have eternal trauma which leads to the result that the concept of Manifest Destiny is actually brutal and aggressive

The American actions are not justified because they were just taking their own benefits by doing violent behaviors American actions are not justified by economic political or ideological impulse For Mexico the war made numerous amounts of tragedies many people died thousands of orphans became homeless tremendous cripples In addition the war also destroyed political careers of many people and made disasters happens in the national government there were seven presidents and 10 different ministers of foreign relations during the two years of war The political instability during and immediately after the war led to a new despotic regime and eventually to another civil war What's more the most critical and long lasting effect of the war on Mexicans was mental Losing half of its territories the loss of Mexican humiliated the dignity of a nation and it induced a deep sorrow and resentment toward the United States In conclusion the United States should return Mexico's lost territory because the United States was not justified in taking half of Mexico's territory in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo the Manifest Destiny and aggressive imperialism was pursued at the expense of others and the American actions was not justified by economic political and ideological impulses
