Buddhism is one of the world's largest and oldest religions. Buddhist ideas have been influencing many people from all around the world for over twenty-five centuries. Siddhartha Gautama Buddha discovered the four noble truths and the Eightfold Path to Nirvana. He had found a way to be in utmost joy. Buddhism is a religion that is practiced by hundreds of million people in the world. There are three schools branches of Buddhism which include: Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. Mahayana is largely practiced in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, Tibet, and Japan. It is the most followed branch. Theravada is found mostly in Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Burma. It is the second-largest practiced branch. The least followed branch is Vajrayana. It is practiced primarily in Tibet. Although they are different branches they focus on the same teachings, such as that the Buddha is their Master who gave them the Teachings accepting the Four Noble Truths and there are different ways to achieve enlightenment. Buddhism mythology is important to the culture of its people because it describes how the universe was created after being demolished and then re evolving into its present form over a period of innumerable millions of years, it forms the importance of reaching enlightenment and it expounds the belief that God is unknowable. The universe was created without intervention of any God, nor nature according to the Buddhists. The creation happened over and again all through time. Going to the start of each cycle land begins to shape in darkness on the exterior of the water.
Otherworldly creatures who populated the universe in the past cycle are reawakened. One of them appears as a man and from there the human race started. Despair and hopelessness reign. In the end, the universe disintegrates and every living animal comes back to the spiritual life and the cycle restarts. This shows how the creation of the world was a cycle in Buddhist culture. It also explains how a man started the human race. Reaching enlightenment is very important for Buddhists. Enlightenment is when a Buddhist finds the truth about life and stops being reborn. Buddha means Enlightened. One day sitting under the Bodhi tree, the tree of awakening Siddhartha became intrigued in his meditation and looked back on his experience of life determined to find its truth. He finally achieved Enlightenment after 49 days and became the Buddha. Brahma heavenly king in Buddhism asked Buddha on behalf of the whole world that he should share his understanding with others. Brahma inspired Buddha to make the Wheel of the Dharma for anyone who wanted to attain enlightenment. The wheel shows the endless cycle of reincarnation and it can only be escaped by the Buddha's teachings. For the next 45 years of his life, the Buddha taught disciples who later became Arahants or noble ones who had attained Enlightenment for themselves.
The Buddha. 2 The Buddha was very open with his work. He listened to Brahma and did not refuse. He wanted to find a way to end a suffering and he had found the solution enlightenment. Buddha's enlightenment involved the four noble truths which were: 1 Truth of suffering dukkha, 2 Truth of the cause of suffering samudaya, 3 Truth of the end of suffering nirodha, 4 Truth of the path magga. The Buddha declined the being of all gods and sacred beings. Buddha is born Siddhartha. Gautama was isolated in his father' s palace for his first few years. His mother passed away seven days after giving birth to him. A holy man said that Siddhartha had great things in store for the future and he was either going to become a great king, military leader or spiritual leader. He got married at 16. As soon as he got older somewhere his late 20's he left his palace and saw the real picture. He saw an old man and his charioteer explained that people grow old. He also came across a man with disease and a corpse that was decaying. His charioteer told him that humans fear death and suffering. The next day he left his palace with his wife and child. For the next 6 years, Siddhartha lived a simple life and meditated while practicing his new way of life. If his questions were left unanswered he would double his efforts for everything to get an answer. One day a girl came up to him with a bowl of rice. Then he began to realize that living under harsh conditions would not help him obtain spiritual release. From then on he uplifted people to follow a path of equality instead of an extreme lifestyle. He sat under the Bodhi tree promising that he will not stand up until he got the truth as his answers Siddhartha began to purify his mind and forget about threats from Mara who was an evil demon. Mara questioned his right to become the Buddha. When Mara tried to say the enlightened state as his Siddhartha touched the ground and asked the Earth to throw out Mara.
