Lactose Intolerance Lactose intolerance is something that affects people all around the world so I have decided to write an essay all about it I have decided I would like to figure out What is lactose Intolerance How can the scientific use of enzymes solve the issue of allowing people with lactose intolerance to consume dairy products Why some people have it and others do not I wonder if it might be in your genes because my uncle has it and so does his son Are people born with lactose intolerance or does it develop as you grow older What is Lactose Intolerance Lactose is a type of sugar that is found in milk and other dairy products Lactose intolerance is a common digestive problem where the body is unable to digest lactose Just like how your body has a special enzyme that breaks down fat called lipase you also have an enzyme to break down lactose called Lactase Lactase breaks down lactose into two sugars called glucose and galactose which can be easily absorbed into the bloodstream Sometimes your body cannot produce enough lactase enzymes so the lactose stays in the digestive system it is then fermented by bacteria which causes symptoms which usually develop a couple hours after consuming the lactose
