What is loss of Innocence

Loss of innocence is a experience when you learn and become aware of evil pain and suffering in the world around you In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding and the article More Than 131 Killed in Taliban Attack on School by Omar Waraich both works of literature establish violence that leads to loss of innocence in many ways In the Lord of the Flies violence leads to a growing sense of losing one's innocence because the main character witnesses a painful death of someone For example on page 69 70 it states Jack had too many things to tell Ralph at once Instead he danced a step or two then remembered his dignity and stood still grinning I cut the pig's throat Jack said proudly There was lashings of blood Jack laughing and shuddering you should have seen it There was a ship Out there You said you'd keep the fire going and you let it out They might have seen us We might have gone home This quote displays the symbolism of the fire The fire is their only hope for survival They hope that if they keep the fire gong they would be rescued in no time However the fact that Jack doesn't even realized he ruined them from being rescued is so upsetting Killing the pig shows the progression in how they started to lose the innocence they used to have When they first come to the island Jack could not kill a pig but as his thoughts only went towards to killing his innocence fades and his determination increases causing him to kill the pig and even enjoying it After the first kill the ease in which the boys are able to kill steadily increase
