Is College Actually Worth It. According to the National Centre for Education Statistics an estimated 20.4 million students are expected to attend American colleges and universities. David Leonhardt in his The New York Times article Is College Worth It. Clearly, New Data Say articulates the significance of college education through factual evidence. He introduces the readers to the increasing statistics which reflects the escalating value of college education. On the other hand, Michael Barone in a Washington Examiner article titled. Is college worth it. Increasing numbers say no points out the limitations of a college education. Barone through various examples powerfully illustrates the shortcoming of the college and university administrations. However, despite the plethora of limitations such as the crippling economy rapidly increasing, inequality and malign effects of college and university administrations reduce the success attainable through a college degree. First and foremost due to the rapidly declining economic situation and rising inequality of the country limits college graduates from attaining overall success. To begin with but from almost any individual's perspective, college is a no brainer. It's the most reliable ticket to the middle class and beyond Leonhardt 4. A college education is the heart of the Great American Dream which makes the achievement of a college education synonymous with overall financial success. Thus thousands of students flock to various educational institutions all over the country to achieve their ambition.

However, a plethora of significant characteristics which are responsible to constitute success is oftentimes overlooked. Interestingly enough Leonhardt reflecting upon such limiting attributes asserts. Nothing guarantees success especially after 15 years of disappointing economic growth and rising inequality. 2 As over the past decade the country has witnessed slowest average growth and is struggling with the aftermath of the Great Recession. However despite the present economic situation the statistics between wages of individuals with a college degree in the comparison with the individuals with a high school degree. It is pretty evident that due to measurable growth in college graduates the probability of a college degree pertaining to higher economic success has increased Leonhardt 1. Similarly, the concept of inequality can be helpful in understanding the economic problems. As due the rapidly increasing income inequality which excavates the gap between the haves and have nots. As Leonhardt illustrates From the country's perspective education can be only part of the solution to our economic problems 3. From this, it can be inferred that masses often tend to assume education as to their problems Leonhardt. 3. 4 However the individuals owing to the hereditary wealth and or status have a better chance of attaining success than their college graduate counterparts. Therefore the present erroneous economic situation and the substantially increasing economy diminishes the success rate of college degrees entailing to succeed. Secondly, the despairing effects of the education system prevent college and university students from attaining maximum success.

It is universally accepted truth that no college degree guarantees success, however, it is instrumental in increasing the likelihood of success. But the present education system due to varied reasons are unable to attend college. Due to the failure of government subsided college tuition policies, a measurable increase in college and university tuition has been witnessed. Barone asserts. One reason for the flight Vedder and Stehle argue is that the costs of higher education keep rising while the returns for a college diploma are getting worse. 1 The enormous increase in tuition has engulfed thousands of college graduates in enormous amounts of debt. The principal function of college education is lost as such student's debts results in preventing college graduates from attaining success. As a result expensive college degrees have lost their worth amongst many prospective college students. This has resulted in rapidly deteriorating admissions in prestigious universities Barone 1 2. In addition, the contemporary post-secondary admission system has been rapidly transforming educational institutions into businesses. As a result the concepts of intellectualism have been lost from the college administrations. One the most significant purpose of a college education is to inculcate humanistic and intellectual principles amongst the attending student populace. As Barone powerfully illustrates. Administrators have also defended restrictive speech codes which have made our campuses the part of America least open to free expression against attacks from the indefatigable. Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.

2 This presents a lack of empathetic approach of college administrators in addressing the violent and disruptive events. Reflecting upon such events Barone further adds young people planning their futures might be wise to hesitate to commit their time and money to institutions run by the people committing these anti-intellectual outrages. And they have reason to suspect they don't offer much in the way of serious education. 2 In conclusion it can be inferred that the deteriorating education system falling economy and rising economy are instrumental in preventing overall success of education amongst college graduates. To sum up David Leonhardt speaks about the importance of education despite the economic situation and inequality. Additionally, Michael Barone addresses the debacle of college administration falling economy and anti-intellectualism in relation to college education Works Cited Leonhardt David Is College Worth It Clearly New Data Say The New York Times The New York Times 27 May 2014 Web 31 December 2017 Barone Michael Is college worth it Increasing numbers say no Washington Examiner Washington Examiner 8 June 2017 Web 31 December 2017.
