The heart is the body circulatory pump that takes actions in the circulation of blood to the entire body the heart pumps blood into separate blood vessels which are the pulmonary and systemic circulation The heart takes in deoxygenated blood through the veins and delivers to the lungs for oxygenation before pumping to various arteries The arteries provides nutrients and oxygen to body tissues through the transportation of blood to the body The heart is based on the left centre of the chest it consists of four chambers the atria which is the entry halls and the inferior chambers that are the ventricles as seen in the diagram below The atria receive blood form the blood vessels that returns blood to the heart while the ventricles eject blood from the heart The heart consist of different range of tissues and one of the important one is called the cardiac muscle The cardiac muscle cell is myogenic Anne 2014 Chambers of the heart Chambers of the heart 2011 The structure of the heart as seen in the below diagram explains that the right atrium is linked to the right ventricle which pumps the poor oxygen to the lungs The tricuspid valve prevents the backflow of blood into the atrium when the ventricle contracts The left atrium is link to the left ventricle by the bicuspid valve which then pumps the rich oxygen blood to the body
