552After completing a career project in the sixth grade I have not been able to see myself working in a career other than nursing As early as I can remember I was interested in books of the human body and having my mom tell me her experiences as a certified nursing assistant I knew I wanted a career involved with helping people My fascination with the human body became visible around the age of five My mom says that I was curious as to what the real name of our body parts were called such as the kneecap being the patella and our chest bone as the sternum Although my mother was only a certified nursing assistant for six years this was a significant part of my reasoning to become a nurse By the age of seven I had memorized the twenty major bones in the skeletal system by reading my mom's old anatomy textbooks For several years I thought my nursing career goal was to become a registered nurse After doing much research in my spare time I realized I do not want to stop there My overall goal in nursing is to obtain my Doctor of Nursing Practice in anesthesia to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist
The Wooden Center is also something at UCLA I am interested to get involved with I am currently a member of a club at my high school called Outdoor Adventure Club One of my hobbies is going hiking while also herping Herping is the act of looking for reptiles and amphibians often misunderstood creatures This University also has an 86 pass rate for the NCLEX from 2016 superior facilities is academically competitive and has a beautiful and safe campus I also find the diversity of students at this campus to be appealing I will be able to meet fellow LGBTQ students people of different religious backgrounds and ethnicities and have the ability to learn about other cultures At a very young age I knew I wanted to attend college I will be the first generation in my family to do so Education is one of the most important aspects in my life I am also a third generation American My grandmother first came to California from México when she was in her teens As a multi racial female of Hispanic heritage it is also important for me to receive an education since such a low percentage of Hispanic women receive an advanced education
Neither of my parents received a college degree My father a user of methamphetamine only has a high school education and my mother has some college education I never felt pressured to go to college but I knew I wanted to be the one person in my family to start the trend of attending a university At age sixteen I started attending classes at my local community college I chose to do this not only to further my education but also because my high school does not offer Advanced Placement classes I have never been one to be involved in music sports or the arts I have always wished to have found a talent in one of those but I am going to attend a piano class for the spring semester at my community college When I was younger I was involved in Folklorico at type of Mexican ballet dancing This really helped me become more in touch with my ethnicity and culture One of my goals outside of nursing is to become fluent in the Spanish language Not only will it make me more advantageous for jobs I will also be able to communicate with my distant family still living in México After high school graduation I will have two years of high school level Spanish and one semester of college Spanish I look forward to being part of the next generation of nurses Not a single day will be the same I will get to wear scrubs to work will get to come home fulfilled and I will make a difference My name is and I will be an amazing nurse and an even better nurse anesthetist Thank you for giving me this incredible opportunity
