Children Growing up around the World Children around the world are taught differently and grown up in different ways making it important to be aware of other countries perspectives on early childhood education care and development for children Even though children are taught differently there is always values behind raising a child Being aware of other countries values and how they raise children will give us a perspective needed to understand and have communication with people from different cultures Which will have us as humans and educators to observe are ways of doing things feeling and the way we think As talked about in A Global Perspective on Early Childhood Care and Education The upbringing and education will always reflect values no matter if those values are hidden or more openly defined in relation to educational aims contents methods and evaluation Lillemyer et al 2001 p 9 The six values that are expressed throughout all countries are multiculturalism a new professionalism value of play rights of a child democracy lastly ethical responsibility and accountability Multiculturalism refers to to any form of education or teaching that incorporates the histories texts values beliefs and perspectives of people from different cultural backgrounds Great Schools 2014 Teachers may have to incoratite and modify different ways to teach lessons in the classroom to become more culturally diverse to be able have all students understand and obtain the information in the lesson It is a teacher's responsibility to work in the best interest of the child Professionalism is the professional side of teachers working in the best interest of the students including providing cultural support Children from all cultures should be given the Running Head CHILDREN GROWING UP AROUND THE WORLD 



3 chance to learn about their culture in a professional setting Teachers take on the responsibilities of a parent while the child is at school including taking on what children are taught at home which includes the culture and values the children grown up with and are taught At school children have the chance to play with other children leading to the value of play During play children are likely to make their own choices and fulfilling their own will Which can lead to communication between children who have different values making it important for children to be familiar with other values If children are to be aware of other children s values they will be more likely to accept them leading to less problems as we see today when is comes to other people s values Just like adults child need to have rights too Children are human beings too having the rights as a child can be described as be shown that you are equal and shown the respect all humans deserve and crave In many cultures education is not seen as necessary especially for girls who are seen as caretakers to stay home to do housework and take care of children Many children around the world are not given the opportunity to get an education for example Malala who was shot trying to give her voice about wanting an education Children deserve the right to an education in any culture if they are wanting to learn given the power of liberty rights Welfare rights which is adults looking out for the best interest of the child while liberty rights are allowing children to make their own decisions that adults may not agree with Georgeson et al 2013 p 20 Child should have rights but with their rights they need guidance Children may not always know what is their own best interests that is where responsible adults are needed to care for them also to educate them based upon their values As a teacher Running Head 



CHILDREN GROWING UP AROUND THE WORLD 4 with the use of professionalism and multiculturalism having to behave and act around the child in the ways that correspond to the child s ethical standards The use of ethics relates to accountability by being in a professional setting as an educator you have to have accountability in working with children of different cultures and values to educate them Understand how your students cultures affect their perceptions self esteem values classroom behavior and learning Use that understanding to help your students feel welcomed affirmed respected and valued Image Learning 2010 The values of children are very important that need to be studied and taught in classrooms Ideas about how young children should be cared for and educated have always been shared between countries and reflect the changing and understanding of children and their childhood over time at present however there seems to be increasing interest in understanding how early childhood education and care is organized and experienced internationally Georgeson et al 2013 p 4 With the use of the six major values that are expressed throughout all countries children in the classroom are now learning about the values and cultures of other countries Values can be seen as a part of a family Parents begin educating their children on values starting out at a young age usually starting before most kids start school Education Corner 2017 It is important to parents that their child is taught values when they are away from home which falls in the hands of the edorator and caretaker of the child In all countries values are very important to remember when becoming aware of international perspectives in early childhood education care and development
