Have you ever been in trouble just by association or racism then the book To Kill a Mockingbird is amazing book to read The main view of the story is from a perspective of Scout Finch a young girl who lives with her older brother Jem and their father Atticus in the small town of Maycomb Maycomb is not the most well known city and not the biggest city either but they have there issues to The town is struggling with the Great Depression but after one of the things that is occuring Atticus and his family is doing great compared to the other people of the city Atticus is one of the main characters who wants to raise his kids to be respectful and to show empathy to people In Harper Lee's book To Kill a Mockingbird she uses Atticus as a character to show how empathy can be used and the effects it can have on people's lives while also teaching the young kids of Maycomb to treat everyone with the respect and empathy they want In the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee traits such as empathy that is expressed by many characters This is used throughout the book by certain characters to show the biases of how some treat others just because of their nationality race Lee does a subtle job of introducing empathy into characters throughout the chapter How she does this is by using a character named Atticus Atticus is a very compassionate person as further into the book has to defend a case about how Tom Robinson was accused of harassing raping Mayella Atticus teaches his daughter Scout You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it Lee 38

This was very challenging because back then there are a lot of racial tensions but Atticus believes that no matter what race anybody is they should be treated the same How this show empathy is by Atticus putting himself in Tom Robinson shoes and asking how would I want to be treated if I was him Another example of how Lee shows empathy with Atticus is by having him put himself in the shoes of his clients and anybody else and goes out of the way to ensure that their feelings are well when things get tough An example of Atticus's kindness and empathy with his client Mr Cunningham Cunningham is a poor civilian of Maycomb who could not afford the financial obligation in the normal way Atticus noticed that Mr Cunningham has been leaving the so called payments on the back porch Atticus yet said thank you to Mr Cunningham because he knew that a conversation would be embarrassing to him As you can see Atticus is a very empathetic person and would want to be treated the same way as he treats people Another prevalent example of how Harper Lee shows empathy is when Atticus allows Mr Cunningham to not pay the amount that was suggested Mr Cunningham left his payments stove wood and hickory nuts in the back as payment for the work that Atticus has done Atticus being the caring man he is would not acknowledge the givings from Mr Cunningham Lee uses Atticus as one of the most empathetic characters in the novel as he says Mr Cunningham left he said Mr Finch I don t know when I'll ever be able to pay you

Let that be the least of your worries Walter Lee 24 Atticus doesn't care if his client is poor colored etc as long as he tries his hardest he will defend anyone that comes to him In this case Mr Cunningham came to him and said he would not be able to afford the payments that Atticus had put up Instead of Atticus telling Mr Cunningham to find someone else to defend him he says don't worry about that It shows that Atticus wants to be respected the same as how he is treating Mr Cunningham In conclusion Harper Lee uses empathy as the main trait and attribute towards Atticus Finch Atticus Finch is a father to two kids named Scout and Jem and he tries to do his personal best to teach them how to be a better person in life and to be empathetic to one another Atticus demonstrates this by sticking up to an African American who was accused of rape when nobody else would defend him Another example of Mr Finch s empathetic attribute is when Mr Cunningham could not afford the payments he would drop supplies off on their front porch but Atticus did not acknowledge that because if he did it would justify him as poor and embarrass Mr Cunningham Therefore in the book To Kill a Mockingbird a main trait of empathy goes to Atticus Finch Notes E enotes com eNotes 9 Mar 2010 Web 10 Jan 2018 https www enotes com homework help what does atticus mean when he says 146111
