There are many things we deal with while we are in the workplace one aspect we may deal with is stress Stress can come from many things bills people at work to many tasks to do within a time and even upcoming projects meetings As for myself I get stress about bills people not knowing what they are doing which leads to me doing their work Stress can cause a lot of problems mentally and physically To correct the problem you need to know how it all works So where does stress start in the brain The prefrontal cortex is the most advanced brain region that we use and deals with our cognitive abilities Take to note that this part of the brain is the most subtle to the negative effects of stress Even quite mild acute uncontrollable stress can cause a rapid and dramatic loss of prefrontal cognitive abilities and more prolonged stress exposure causes architectural changes in prefrontal dendrites Recent research has begun to reveal the intracellular signaling pathways that mediate the effects of stress on the PFC This research has provided clues as to why genetic or environmental insults that disinhibit stress signaling pathways can lead to symptoms of profound prefrontal cortical dysfunction in mental illness Arnsten 2009 Another part of the brain we use when we are stress is the hypothalamus Hypothalamus sends signals to your pituitary gland telling it to release hormones 



Our body releases stress hormones called cortisol and adrenaline when these are released it can cause our heart to beat faster our muscles to be tense our blood pressure to increase and our senses to become sharper Our body does this to prepare the body to fight or flee from the danger at hand The hypothalamus is located below the thalamus a part of the brain that relays sensory information and above the pituitary gland and brain stem It is about the size of an almond Bristol 2017 When my body is stressed my muscles seem to tense up It is said that muscles tense up because it is a reflex or reaction to the stress on your body this happens because the body is trying to protect itself Stress is your body s response to events that make you feel threatened When you sense danger whether real or imagined the body's defenses are activated in a rapid automatic response known as the fight or flight reaction or the stress response Bhasin 2010 As for me stress takes a toll on my body I usually overthink a lot of things which causes my anxiety to kick in anxiety has played a big role in my life As of right now I am on medicine that slows my heart rate also I am on medicines that control my acids in my stomach my doctor has told me that the cause of this could be my stress levels Stress has a lot of effects on my body some which lead to headaches chest pain and sleeping problems I also notice that it influences my mood at times some common effect of stress on your mood is Anxiety Lack of motivation or focus Feeling overwhelmed Irritability or anger and Sadness or depression Stress can also influence your behavior which can lead to over eating or starving yourself drug or alcohol addiction and some people can become anti social 



My stress does affect my behavior I see that there are times where I do not eat also most of the time I am anti social Now that I look at it stress plays a big role in my life knowing how it starts and the effects that it causes can help me correct the problem There have been many people who have researched on how stress works and the many ways to which you can cope or get rid of our stress Many doctors specialize in taking care of stress some of the simple ways to treat stress is meditation and more sleep Like I said before you need to know what is causing the stress first There are other routes you can take to reduce stress such as taking a prescribed medication If your stress is sleep related see a specialized doctor Sleep Psychology They address a lot effects such as Sleeping disorders Insomnia Hypersomnia including narcolepsy Sleep Related Breathing Disorders Sleep Cycle Disorders Adherence to sleep specific medical procedures e g positive airway pressure therapy for sleep apnea and 



Sleep in the context of related medical and psychological illnesses APA 2017 There is said to be over seven types of stress that doctors have treated or specialize in treating Physical Chemical Mental Emotional Nutritional Traumatic and Psycho Spiritual Over the years I have been treating my stress with medication and cutting most of the people out of my life where stress was more persistent After taking the medications and cutting people out of my life my stress levels went down Finding activities that calm my nerves help as well sometime when I am stress I jump in the hot tub or watch a movie Dealing with stress can take some time for many people it can take months or even years before you can get it under control Taking care and getting rid of stress will result in being more happy and healthy if stress is not taken care of it could lead to heart attacks and even death With all the advanced knowledge and specialized doctors out there I now know how important it is to reduce stress in life and in the workplace
