I will be writing two different diary entries about the earthquake and radiation leakage that happened on the coast of Tohoku Japan on March 11 2011 To show the difference in the type of writing that the reporter has compared to the child I will be writing the reporter's diary entry with the assumption that the work will be published For the other one the child's diary I will be using language that will be less mature and language used through the child's cultural background The purpose of using diary as my text type was to show the effect of culture on language I will be using cultural references to Japan as well as cultural references to the reporters I believe the two different diary entries are written for different purposes The contrast can be seen not only in an intellectual level but also the writing style I am writing these diary entries because I want to express the feelings and experiences of people that were affected by the earthquake I thought of a diary entry would be the best way of recreating the stories and feelings of how those are affected because dairies can be personal and opinionated In this way I can show the difference between what the news and the personal experience of what the people have encountered This might contradict between what the reports that they are making and the true feelings of the people Diary Entry of the News Reporter Dear Diary It is my fifth day reporting at Sendai I felt the Earthquake a few days ago in Japan and it was the biggest earthquake that I have ever experienced in my entire life I contemplate about it now and think that it must have felt even more destructive and intense at Sendai Looking at all the damage now I am very certain that it is true that the impact at Sendai was far greater than of that which we have felt in Tokyo or other regions of Japan 

The radiation caused radiation poisoning in the food and people would not be able to consume food in the region As such many people have started to stock up food for the past few days Restaurants business and other food industries will not profit and many people will lose their jobs During all the chaos I noticed that people in Sendai are acting very well mannered When the supermarket and convenience store lines were opening the people all lined up and did not attempt to skip There also seems to be of no report of vandalization or looting in the area Tomorrow I will be reporting on the nuclear reactors and interviewing the locals about the earthquake My solace goes out to all those families of the victims that were affected and lost Diary Entry of the Child Dear Dairy I am sad and not happy today I think I am upset because of the events that happened yesterday I think I am not in a position of feeling good or bad I have never felt an earthquake that big before I am in the gymnasium with my family right now and I cannot sleep with the constant talking and strangers around me I think the government did a good job of keeping people safe because they are all in a safe place now The newspaper and media people are talking about bad things because of what happened but the earthquake was not normal I think that it is the largest earthquake ever in the history of Japan I am sad that many people have died but I think that the government did all their very best to keep people safe I hope that I will be able to soon live in a house again with my family I know I will move somewhere and attend a different school and I will miss my relatives and my friends I wonder what the other kids are thinking right now not only are they affected by the earthquake but other kids in the world have heard about the devastating earthquake I hope that they will feel sorry for the kids that have lost their parents
