Abstract This project is related to a Hospital Management System It maintains records of all the operations that occur at any of the Hospital or Medical Center This project will automate the daily operations of a hospital The project keeps track of the staff and patient in patient out patient details It also takes care of the ward medication and the doctor's appointment details It also keeps track of sales purchase and inventory of a medicine in a pharmacy The HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT enables better patient care patient safety patient confidentiality efficiency reduced costs and better management information system It provides easy access to critical information thus enabling the management to take better decisions on time This project deals with processing of each and every department in the hospital This project sincerely aims to reduce the manual Processing of each department The scope of the project takes care of the details of each and every department Definitions of problems Problems with conventional system Lack of immediate retrievals 

The information is very difficult to retrieve and to find particular information like E g To find out about the patient's history the user has to go through various registers This results in in convenience and wastage of time Lack of immediate information storage The information generated by various transactions takes time and efforts to be stored at right place Lack of prompt updating Various changes to information like patient details or immunization details of child are difficult to make as paperwork is involved Error prone manual calculation Manual calculations are error prone and take a lot of time this may result in incorrect information For example calculation of patient's bill based on various treatments Preparation of accurate and prompt reports This becomes a difficult task as information is difficult to collect from various registers Goals of proposed system Planned approach towards working The working in the organization will be well planned and organized The data will be stored properly in data stores which will help in retrieval of information as well as its storage Accuracy The level of accuracy in the proposed system will be higher All operation would be done correctly and it ensures that whatever information is coming from the center is accurate Reliability The reliability of the proposed system will be high due to the above stated reasons The reason for the increased reliability of the system is that now there would be proper storage of information No Redundancy In the proposed system utmost care would be that no information is repeated anywhere in storage or otherwise 

This would assure economic use of storage space and consistency in the data stored Immediate retrieval of information The main objective of proposed system is to provide for a quick and efficient retrieval of information Any type of information would be available whenever the user requires Immediate storage of information In manual system there are many problems to store the largest amount of information Easy to Operate The system should be easy to operate and should be such that it can be developed within a short period of time and fit in the limited budget of the user Background A Hospital is a place where Patients come up for general diseases Hospitals provide facilities like Consultation by Doctors on Diseases Diagnosis for diseases Providing treatment facility Facility for admitting Patients providing beds nursing medicines etc Immunization for Patients Children Various operational works that are done in a Hospital are Recording information about the Patients that come Generating bills Recording information related to diagnosis given to Patients Keeping record of the Immunization provided to children patients Keeping information about various diseases and medicines available to cure them Functional Requirements Patient registration As soon as a patient enters the hospital for first time he she should get registered irrespective of ipd or opd Information such as personal details family details etc is recorded and a registration id is issued Every time a patient is treated at the hospital he she will be referred by this number The following information is required for the registration of OPD Patient Patient Details like Name Age Sex Address Contact number etc Department Consultant to be visited For Inpatient the additional information requirements are Room bed requirement Consultant In charge Treatment required IPD Patient s admission details such as reason for admission medication ward details operation details if any etc are recorded whenever he she is admitted 

A discharge card is issued to the patient at the time of discharge stating the treatment summary Also a bill is prepared against the various services availed by the patient OPD Consulting details of the patient are recorded and a bill is prepared Medicine The Medicine Module deals with the Retail Sale of medicines to OPD patients and Issue of medicines to the In patients in the hospital Its function includes online drug prescription inventory management and billing of drugs consumables and sutures This module is closely linked to the Billing Module and In patient Module All the drugs required by the patient can be indented from the various sub stores Salient Features This module enables complete control on pharmacy including Purchase Issue of medicine to IPD or OPD Patient Total amount of the bill for IPD Patient will automatically get added in his bill Items cannot be issued after the expiry date Bed This module deals with the allocation of bed to the in house patients It has an interface with the billing module The charges levied to any bed are automatically added to the final bill Salient Features This module enables complete control on the allocation of beds The beds are of various types i e ICU General etc A single patient may change the type of bed allotted to him during his period of stay at the hospital The bed charges are added to the boll automatically
