In William Shakesphaere’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream the play opens up with the discussion between Theseus and Hippolyta's wedding that is set to be in four days analyzing the love between Theseus and Hippolyta Theseus the Duke of Athens and the representation of power with in this play also displayed generosity Theseus is engaged to marry Hippolyta in four days time Theseus became engaged to Hippolyta the Queen of the Amazons whom is known for her symbolization of order in this play During a battle between the Athens and the Amazon people Theseus declares his love when during the battle when he injured Hippolyta and reminds her of the fact that she was defeated by Theseus when he says I wooed thee with my sword and won thy love doing thee injuries, in my opinion, this is not romantic at all however Theseus and Hippolyta seemed to have found love in war following Hippolyta s surrendering to Theseus This war was one of the obstacles they faced I find the love between Theseus and Hippolyta to be more of a mature and ideal love not just something out of a romance novel or drama made for television Hippolyta does seem to be happy about being engaged to a man she was just in battle with and she even seems content being his dream wife and it seems they understood the conditions and terms of their relationship and the roles each person would play within the relationship

Egeus is the Father of Hermia it is one of his complaints that he brought to the Duke Theseus that causes disagreement between Theseus and Hippolyta Eguas was determined to have his daughter Hermia marry Demetrius however Hermia is in love with Lysander and refuses her father's request to marry Demetrious This is where the conflict between Theseus and Hippolyta begins Theseus disagrees with the action of Hermia and declares that a child should honor her father's wishes he then gives Hermia the ultimatum that she is to marry Demetrious join the nunnery or suffer from her disobedience and die and she only has until the wedding between Theseus and Hippolyta to make her choice This does not sit well with Hippolyta and she hold her silence to demonstrate these feeling as she does not want her special day and celebration of their love at their wedding to be overshadowed by the potential impending death of Hermia Theseus and Hippolyta disappear after act 1 scene 1 and return in act 4 scene 1 Hippolyta and Theseus get married and we find Hippolyta is more of a romantic type in this play as she is one of the only people who believes the accounts of the night in the woods Hippolyta then becomes part of a scandal when it is accused by the fairy queen Titania of having an affair with the fairy king Oberon when Titania proclaims that Oberon had an affair with the bouncing amazon however Oberon counters this claim by stating that Titania had shard in spirit love with Theseus These accusations are in reference to the past and not the current and seem to not have any impact on the relationship that Theseus and Hippolyta share The rest of this play continues as Hermia and Lysander plan to elope outside of Athens to avoid the punishment of Death for disobeying her father This leads to the forest where the love potions are dumped in the lover's eyes and each individual fall in love with the wrong person creating all the untrue loves relationships throughout the play However it still remains the same that the love engagement and marriage between Theseus and Hippolyta remains Strong

Even though the love between Theseus and Hippolyta is in question by the fairy king and queen and the events leading the engagements between Theseus and Hippolyta I believe their love is real reason I believe that their love is true is that they do not display the jealousy that is displayed by the king and queen of the fairies Theseus and Hippolyta are accepting of their roles and understand how their relationship is to function Hippolyta had to sacrifice her rain as the queen of the amazons and accept her role as the wife of a Duke of Athens and follow what he says this acceptance comes following the loss Hippolyta suffered during the battle she met Theseus at she was also injured by the man that she is now married to and accepts he is not perfect In regard to all the other demonstrations of love the fact that the Fairy queen and king argue and demonstrate contempt for the alleged affairs with Hippolyta and Theseus they demonstrate the immature love when you look at his along with the fact that Hermia and the others seek potions and spells to have love one can see the maturity that is shared by Theseus and Hippolyta
